Magellan, a leading global innovator of outdoor and vehicle navigation solutions, announced today the availability of the new Magellan CrossoverGPS and optional compatible software to expand its functionality. Available at US $549.99, the traffic-ready Magellan CrossoverGPS is the first rugged, IPX-4-waterproof device designed to provide both turn-by-turn driving guidance and navigation for outdoor adventures in the wilderness or on water. To further expand the capabilities of the CrossoverGPS, with its preloaded street maps and topography maps, Magellan also introduces today optional mapping software via memory cards so users can load lakes and fishing-hot-spots data, marine charts and additional topography maps for hiking and other off-road activities.
"This all-in-one device lives up to its name -- combining the superior performance of award-winning Magellan RoadMate vehicle navigation systems with the leading outdoor navigation technology that we've delivered for more than twenty years," said Christian Bubenheim, vice president of Magellan consumer product marketing.

Driving Made Easy: Drivers will appreciate the Magellan CrossoverGPS' voice-and text-prompted turn-by-turn directions to nearly any address in the 50 United States, Canada and Puerto Rico while providing a 3-D birds-eye map view on the 3.5 inch color touch-screen display. The vehicle navigation mode delivers SmartDetour(TM) to help drivers route around freeway traffic; SayWhere(TM) audible directions with street names for added driving confidence; and optimized multi-destination routing for the fastest, most efficient directions. It also delivers a searchable database of businesses and services to help users find restaurants, gas stations, ATMs and more.
Real-Time Traffic Option: In addition, users have the option to add real-time traffic capabilities, currently available for US $99, to help drivers avoid delays and get to their destination faster.
Navigate the Great Outdoors: When it's time for recreational activities, the outdoor navigation mode is easy to use even for novice navigators. The Magellan CrossoverGPS uses pre-loaded topographic contour maps and the latitude and longitude of locations to guide users to and from destinations on land or on water using a map screen or compass screen. Users can create and save waypoints and routes, backtrack and save a base camp location, for example.
